I'm about to become a mother to twins, and these are my first children. Are there any suggestions on how to juggle being a parent and being in the fire service? Also how do i show my significant other that its the one thing i do for me, he wants me to hang up my helmet to be a mother and be there for him. sorry if my question makes no sense, I seem to be having a hard time putting things into words today!
Thank you for any help!

As a mother of 3, it is hard to juggle both but it is possible with the support of your spouse. You must be on the same page and in it together. Personally, I love my career and would not give it up for anyone or anything. There is always a way to make it work as long as everybody wants to.
Congrats Mom!!! I suggest a leave of absence, go be a mommy to the fullest because they are only little once... then you can be firefighter later.
FETC is right but dont give it up all together
Didn't say give it up, she is a young volunteer firefighter currently on leave, so she in my opinion can have it all, be the best mom for the twins, and if her spouse and the department is supportive, she can be a firefighter when life settles a bit.
We make choices and decisions about our life from the moment we are born. They are the sum total of what we claim we are. Your decision to enter the fire service probably suggests you are a woman of strength and character. Share that with your children.

We should never compromise who we are for anyone, including children.
Mom's that are at home during the day whilst the kids are at school are the backbone of some volunteer fire stations, a temporary leave of absence could be the way forward until you can manage your home/worklife balance again. I wouldn't be in a rush to part from the fire service, maintain good contact and links even if you do take leave of absence and you won't regret it.
Good luck whatever you decide to do.
For the most part I agree with all of the other members comments, Take a leave of abscence, and by the way Congrats on the twins.
Be the MOM FIRST. You never get a second chance to raise each of your kids. You can always go back to the FD sometime later. If you have to send your kids to a sitter so you can hang at the firehall, then you chose wrong.....
Are you career or volunteer? If you're volunteer it shouldn't be too bad. Not like HAVE to be there. Just don't go back until you're ready and keep family first. Then if you can't go often, don't.
Just remember....Family always comes first.....Tell him that and remember it....live it.....it will all work out with good communication and allowing time for them as well
Family first. Don't allow yourself to be pushed away, though. You'll be able to juggle eventually, with a bit of help from your significant other. Remind him that life is a 2-way street. Good luck and congratulations.
Hey, I am a father of four girls it is hard to juggle work and parent hood but it is possible. The most important thing is to have someone that is there for you as well as you be there for them.
