WASHINGTON, DC - The DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services high-angle rescue team was called to the 14th Street Bridge Tuesday morning to assist in removing an injured construction worker.
Fire department spokesperson Pete Piringer said the fire department received the call shortly before 10 A.M.
The injured worker was on a catwalk located under the southbound span of the bridge, Piringer said, and could not move.
The DC Fire Boat was called to the scene and rescue crews eventually put the injured worker in a stokes basket and he was lowered to the waiting boat.
Piringer said the victim was then taken to the Columbia Island Marina where he was placed in an ambulance and taken to a local hospital.
Traffic on the southbound span was reduced to one lane in the area of the rescue, but quickly cleared out afterwards.
