Distracted South Dakota Driver Crashes Into Firehouse

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - A driver who told police he was distracted because he was looking for a lighter crashed into a Sioux Falls fire station.

The man and a female passenger were not seriously hurt in the crash about 1 a.m. Friday, but the man was arrested on several charges including drunken driving.

Police say the man crashed into a planter and the front of the building, but the only damage appeared to be to the planter and to the car.

I bet the response time was amazing!! Why can't people do smart things like drive sober and pay attention to the road?
I can hear dispatch now...."Station X Please respond to a MVA at your Station...One vehicle vs building, 2 known victims, injuries unknown...I repeat...Respond to MVA at your Station one vehicle vs building ,2 victims unknown injuries...Do you need crossroads?".......LOL
Well, without stupid people we wouldn't have near the fun we do now.......LOL
Shouldn't that be "Distracted AMERICAN driver crashes into AMERICAN firehouse"?
Funny how the story says he was drunk but the title still sugessts that the cause of the crach was the he was distracted
We've been responded to our station for a call, and yes, cross streets were mentioned on the pager message! Not surprising really, our turnout messages are all computer generated ;o)
Combining two stupid habits? Driving when drunk and smoking? Possibly talking on his mobile phone as well, I wonder if they checked it...
Love it when stupid people bring the calls to us.
Wouldn't doubt a cell being involved, also have to wonder if a lighter is what he was looking for, or the pipe to light with it. Have heard of that situation more than a few times around here.
