OK is anyone else having problems with the Pierce PUC? Ours is having issues with the fuel system, AC and the DPF/Regen systems. It has been OOS for OVER 12 of the 18 months we have had it. Please let me know what issues they are having, especially in cold weather areas. We have the Cat engine config in ours. Cheers, Glen
How much idle time? I know that the powerstroke diesels with a DPF dont like to idle for extended periods. With too much idle time, exhaust gas temps dont get hot enough to passive regen, and require active regen. My only experience is with Ford Motor Company so I'm not sure if this helps. Might be a good idea to get a CAT technician to take a look at it.
Thanks the idle time does seem to be a factor with the DPF problem. Even 10 minutes (5 in real cold0 seems to cause it to start choking out and lay down a smoke screen the US Navy would be proud of. The Cat guys are the ones that cant fix it. There are several problems however. Is there a fix for this problem. Thanks again!
Well about all I can tell ya is,keep idle time to a minimum, and keep up on the maintenance. Fuel quality can also be a factor. Once again I have no idea how these engines are set up but on the powerstrokes a stuck open EGR valve can cause exactly what you are saying. I wish I knew a little more about the heavy trucks.
Does the apparatus not have a "high idle" switch or an auto throttle? If so, it probably should be engaged anytime the engine is idling. Just a thought.
We have a Perice contender and we are required to take it off base and on the interstate to blow it out once a week.. we have lots less problems after we started the new policy.
