Our dept is thinking of adding laptops to some of our rigs.  What types of computers are being used and how well do they hold up to abuse?

Are you using toughbooks also?
Yep.
Thanks for all of the input. I am not sure if our dept. will go for the price tag. I would love to outfit at least two of our rigs. Sounds like tough books are the way to go.
I work with computers every day and can voucher for the "Panasonic Toughbook" EMS stations have been using them for years and our local FD's have started to as well. The really hold up and if you buy the extended warranty.."if it breaks they replace it, no questions asked".
Motorola Tough book... i have not seen any other type of laptop in any other car. Here in SC they are used across the board for Police, Fire, EMS ect..
No but I do wonder how well they do using their laptops while driving down the road which is my point Jack.
Tough Books are good and Motorolla product is also good. The most important part though is programing and interoperatbility with your commuincation system. If the software does not support the use of the laptop then it's sort of like putting the cart before the horse. For example if are toned to a fire can you see the call type, address, go enroute and pull up the last pre-fire plan all from the laptop? Can you send messages with other companies from the laptop. These are question that you may need to research. But if you know the answers go with the best price.
