The Fire Dept. as a whole, all over the world, is a brotherhood. But are Explorers considered part of this so called "brotherhood??" i was talking with a firefighter and my Explorer Engineer (2 positions under me, also 2nd in command @ our post) and we kinda got into a heavy..."debate" on whether or not Explorers are considered part of the "brotherhood."
I believe they are.

What do you think??

Paul,

My point(s) exactly!
You'll get no response out of me to these ignorant statements. Jack and Paul I take it with your know it all mind and end all, and be all attitude that you've never met anyone who was turned off by your demeanor.
Phillip,

Of course I've met people that were turned off by my demeanor, I'm neither obtuse nor am I clueless. On the other hand the people in my house (and department) know me and my capabilities. Some are friends and some aren't, c'est la vie.

As to ignorant statements, "hello....cauldron." Like it (or me) or not, one thing I'm not is ignorant. I may indeed be opinionated but I have a lot of life experience (as well as work experience) from which to speak. The same can NOT be said about you. You are acting like a whinny spoiled little child that isn't getting his own way. While I may or may not be excessively warm and fuzzy (my friends and sisters/brothers can decide that) I care little of the opinion of someone who is essentially a wannabe who wandered into this site and thinks 'he da man'.
Sheesh!! For a second there I thought you were gonna reveal the secret handshake. We wouldnt want these "Brotherhood Wannabees" to find that out. It wouldnt be secret anymore. SHEESH!!!!
My opinion on this is one of if you have to ask then no you are not part of it but that's ok if you work hard and prove yourself your team will let you know and remember the only people who can make the decision are the one's that know you on a level that far surpasses anything on the net so don't get so hung up on what is said in these or other threds when we all started none of us where more that new with no idea as to what this service was about it's a thing that comes in time you will get there one day if you deserve to be there (IMHO)

Thank you,
WELL SAID!!! i didnt feel i was part of the brotherhood until i had a near death expierence and knew (didnt have to think or wonder) if they were going to come get me. i knew i was part of the brotherhood when somebody asked for my car keys and i gave them to him without question...i had a flat and he changed it for me...i knew i was part of the brotherhood when a seasoned vet came to ME for advice... i knew i was part of the brotherhood when i washed my car at the firehouse and the cars of my buddies without being asked to and they thanked me with a steak dinner...i knew i was part of the brotherhood when i had my heart attack and EVERY MEMBER of my company was waiting to welcome me home...i knew i was part of the brotherhood when i bailed a members son or daughter out of jail and brought them home-from out of state. I could go on and on but i will say you NEVER become part of the brotherhood... you recieve it, you give to it, but most of all you LIVE it. the bread you cast from in this job IS returned to you be you paid or volunteer
why did you reveal that there WAS a secret handshake? SARGENT AT ARMS, DICIPLINE Fireyladd!!!
I believe that we're all brothers in the fire service. I view an explorer as a little brother that want's to be like his big brother. Just because your affiliated in some way with the service doesn't mean your a brother. When you stand in front of your peers and swear in you will know the difference. Take your time and do all your courses that you need to get a job. Put in your time and stop worrying about the little things.
I am not really worried about what is personally happening to me in my department, I know where I am going and I have no issues getting there so far, but this guy continues to insult me and he could be saying this to anyone who has had less time than he has when he uses broad statements about being inexperienced. This guy took it from what it means to be a brother to inulsting me due to my lack of time in a dept, that is totally clear in this discussion. I just want to apologize for what I may have said that was strongly worded, I just wish Jack would knock it off with the comments. Whining and defending yourself agains't brutal comments from a guy on the internet are two different things. I have no tried to interpret the brotherhood or what it means to be a brother. The only one being "da man" is Jack, how many times has he mentioned how great a FF he is and how much he knows? I don't care for his observation about me or my experience his opinion means squat to me. Senority means nothing if he doesn't know how to use it to help another instead of hurt.
Phil,

Since you asked, how many times HAS Jack mentioned how great a firefighter he is?
I am done defending myself agains't Jack anymore, what this guy on the inernet has to say about me affects me in no way going forward.
I'm not asking you to defend yourself against Jack. I'm asking you about your own comment about what you said Jack said.
