COLUMBUS, Ga. - A toddler who was burned in a fire at a Columbus home day care has died.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports that 1-year-old Michael Duvard Jr., died Saturday afternoon at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Ga. He was just three days short of his second birthday.

Muscogee County Coroner Bill Thrower said Duvard died of complications from injuries sustained in the fire. The Columbus toddler was one of nine children at a home that was found engulfed in flames Friday afternoon.

There were also two adults in the house, which witnesses said was used as a day care center.

Fire officials said Saturday the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
