Skateboarder Hurt Hitching Ride on Washington, D.C. Ladder Truck

WASHINGTON - D.C. fire officials say a teenager on a skateboard who grabbed a hook-and-ladder truck that was leaving a fire scene was run over by the apparatus.

It happened Thursday about 6 p.m. in the northwest section of the city. Fire Department spokesman Pete Piringer says the truck was leaving the scene of a small kitchen fire when a 14-year-old male on a skateboard grabbed the truck to be pulled.

The youth fell and the truck ran over his foot. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident is under investigation.

ever hear of mirrors???
That's nuts! Are you implying the driver is at fault? That poor lil snot nosed kid grabs onto a moving vehicle and finally gets hurt (you can bet this was not his first ride) and the driver is fingered out because he never caught it in his fn mirror? yikes! You might as well blame it on whoever made the rules to ban firefighters from riding on the tailboard of apparatus. Afterall, had the guys been riding on the tailboard, this poor precious lil boy would not have been able to grab that truck!
If his foot was run over most likely he had grabbed onto the SIDE of the truck, otherwise how could his foot get run over if he were on the back of it? He'd fall down and the truck would drive away.

I'd bet that his ride lasted all of about 5 seconds before he went down and got his foot run over, probably before or just about the time someone saw him in the mirror.

Let's put the blame where it belongs, on the dumb ass with the skateboard.
Yeah! Next they'll say it wasn't the kids fault because there wasn't a sign on the rig stating he wasn't to do this. How many times have we heard similar disclaimers?
I think he watched Back To The Future one too many times.
Jack, Zactly!!! As a professional driver, I rely on my mirrors very very often, for alot of things, which would include watching for "cling ons" ( seems that term is sooo much more appropriate here lol). But watching the road ahead is kind of important too lol .I agree it had to have been only seconds. How many times a MINUTE do we glance in out rear view / outside mirrors while driving?
dumb ass............ see kids stupid hurts
Hell, I do it quite often just driving my car, let alone a big truck.
Wanna bet there's a law suit coming down the pipe??????????
There's Darwin Award in this kids future and I don't even have a crystal ball.
Yah,. I suspect there will be. lol When I was that age (yikes... was it really that many years ago?) if I would have done it, my mom and dad would have made sure I had the best health care available, and the wounds were treated, would have gave me all the compassion possible, would have made sure my bicycle (skate boards were not even thought of then, so it would have had to be a bike) was not damaged too badly, Then they would have laid a lickin on me that I wouldn't soon forget, just to ensure that I never got a stupid idea like that again!! I think maybe this kid needs more than an fn time out! lol But, yah, aside from the fact that the driver of the rig is probably goin through hell right now, the chances that he and the dept. will be sued seem likely! sad but true!
Where is the parents???
