I am a member of a PPE committee and we are evaluating bunker (turnout) gear from several different manufacturers.  I am looking for your valid and non-biased comments on two specific types of gear.  To help me put your comments in perspective, however, please tell me what gear you are in, what gear you have worn, and the length of wear / amount of experience you had with the two "models" I am interested in: Sperian Ultra Motion / Globe G-Xcel (not to be confused with G-Xtreme or GX7).

Thanks in advance.

I have no experience with sperian, in my 20 plus years I have worn, Fire Dex the old Globe and Globe G-Xcel . Also as a past Chief I have dealt with Quaker, Fire Dex, Puritan and Globe when it comes to repairs. On that issue I have found no better service than Globe both before in the fitting and after in the repair business. They will be very straight up with you when it comes to the viability of the repair you want made as well as the repair vs replacement issue once your gear has reached that 5-7 year age. I have also found that they can just about rebuild a pair of bunkers , if the above ratio is in favor of the repair side.

I don't know what size of people your committee is made up of, but I have found that the Globe G-excel has been a good fit for me and I tend to be on the Fluffy side as Gabriel Iglesias would say. My suggestion would be to get both vendors to bring in their try on or sizing gear and let select members of different sizes try the stuff on, and I mean climb on the apparatus bend over and pick tools up, ladder lift, etc etc after all they are the ones who will have to work in it. If the sales people have a kiniption over them doing this then I would have second thoughts about putting my people in that set of gear.
Best of luck next to the colour that fire trucks should be gear is perhaps the second most contentious subject with in a department.
Really? I just got off the phone with you and you don't ask me about these things? Let me know when you get closer to deciding. I agree about the gloves. The Blaze Fighter is by far the best pair of gloves I have ever worn.
Hey buddy,
I'm glad you have a good sense of humor...of course I want to know anything you can tell me. Call me tomorrow if you can or send me an email. I'll tell you more about what we are doing later.
