EAST HARTFORD, Conn. — An official from a company whose East Hartford warehouse is the scene of a massive fire says its employees all got out safely.

Robert Orenstein, a vice president of Office Furniture Rental Alliance, says about a dozen people were inside the 50,000-square-foot building when the fire started.

Authorities sounded a fifth alarm on the fire Monday morning. Firefighters from West Hartford and Manchester were called in to help East Hartford crews battle the blaze.

Orenstein tells The Hartford Courant that employees smelled smoke around 8:55 a.m. in the building, which contains workstations, desk chairs, bookcases, chairs and basic office furniture.
