This is somewhat of a rant, but also a haven for other people to share their stories correlating to my post as well.

Granted, POVs where I live are NOT designated emergency vehicles, we are allowed to run blue lights as a courtesy light. Generally people will move out of the way for vehicles utilizing blue lights, but the other day something weird happened.

Responding to my station, blue lights activated, we have a street that runs perpendicular with our main road that runs down to the station about 250-300 feet. At this intersection people will usually yield and let me go by. However, this day, people kept on rolling. I'm not talking a few cars, I am talking about 45 seconds to about a minute of constant traffic not stopping. Even a local transit bus didn't stop. I was clearly visible as it was dark out, and I use LEDs since they're brighter and save energy.

The best part is that the people driving by not giving me the common courtesy were driving into a blatant red light about <100 feet behind me at the intersection. It's as if people were SO busy that they had to make it to that red light. It was so important, dire if you will, that they couldn't let me go by. People will generally even stop for people if it's a red light so they can turn through the intersection just to be nice. It just baffles me.

Anyway... Anyone else have any sort of problems like this?

People only care about themself! God for bid you was responding to a emergency for them they would be the 1st to bitch about responce time!
Hey Kali, I'm not trying to put you down. I know how you like to get on here and put others down. That wasn't the point. The point is that not all of us have the stickers and all the pretty little lights. The boy just had a complaint and wanted to air it. So what. If you didn't like it you didn't need to read it or even post to it. I'm not from Long Island so I don't know how bad it is there. But here in the midwest I don't see that many stickers on POV's wanting people to know that they fight what people fear. Sorry. I agree with most others about all the lights and stickers. I have seen alot of overkills on them and I just have to wonder what's going through the person's head to want to look like a UFO going down the road.
Hey Kali, just like I said you act like you live to put others down on here. He wasn't trying to get people to agree. He was venting. And you want to talk about attitudes? What about the little rant by you on my profile page because I had it set up where I had to approve a comment before it was posted? That wasn't childish? And not even a day later both of your comments were gone. I didn't even know at the time that I could change that. Hmmm. So what's that say about you? Sounds pretty childish to me. I have read very few of your posts where you actually tried to give some advice. The rest of the time you are constantly dogging people. Why is that? Is it to look cool in front of your peers? Do you have some unresolved issues? Or is it just because you are a female firefighter that makes you feel the need to be s***ty to people? (because he is either threatened because I'm a woman or jealous of my career position) What's that say about you? That's what I'm guessing from the last line of your response. Don't tell me you weren't excited about the job when you first got hired. You were probably the same way as this kid is. You act like you have never been there. As far as the need to verbally attack you, what is it you do to most others on here? Do you not attack? Just cause your name is the goddess of destruction and because you are a female full timer don't mean s*** to me. And if you look on the next page you will see that I'm not exactly trying to side with Andrew. I'm beginning to think you don't like any vollies because of your experiences in Long Island. Whatever. It doesn't matter to me. So just keep it up. Maybe we'll but heads again later.
Andrew, what people don't realize when they post a topic on here not everyone is going to agree with, or reply by what they want to here. Don't take it personal, everyone has an opinion and been through these same issues one time or another.
Exactly
As I said earlier; although it is addressed to Andrew, it should apply to anyone who engages in internet discussions and are uncomfortable because some people have more passion and strength of their convictions. It should not be confused with narrow-mindedness or hard headedness.
Here is what I said: Andrew;
No; they are not close-minded.
They have the benefit of wisdom and therefore, have a wider perspective.
It's not about who's right; it's about who has the experience to make better decisions.
That would include driving, getting to the scene, being productive and safely returning home.

I mean; we would gain about as much by asking: why did the chicken cross the road?

And Kali I also call them as I see them. I'm not attacking you for your opion. This is about how you address most posters on this site. I don't really care about Kali and the origins of her. And what about all the vollies and probies that left this site because of the B.S.? You know it's not just paid people on here, right? Probies can learn alot on here if you let them. There's constructive critisism and there's hatefulness. You fall under the latter. You think FFN shouldn't allow this to continue? How about the remarks you make towards people? Do you really think I should be threatened because you are a woman? Do you think I'm jealous because you are paid? How childish does that make you sound? You should really change your name to "Kali goddess of double standards". That suits you way better.
Captain703,

I can see how you might arrive at some of your conclusions with respect to Kali, but I think there's another way to look at this.

I generally agree with Kali in terms of the substance of her comments if not the style. She's always direct, frequently assertive, and often confrontational, but she's NEVER "hateful". Sometimes criticism, constructive or not, is difficult to accept. I might have the same criticisms as Kali but just package them differently or - and this is usually the case - just roll my eyes after reading a post and not respond at all. Kali actually reads what people say and then takes the time to comment on what they said and how they said it. You might not like what she says or her delivery, but it's out there for all to see. That's a lot more than you'll get from most folks here - often, including me.

So give the devil his (or her) due. She might even grow on you. (It could happen.)
Omega = taxi ride
LOL. I see what you're saying Philly. And believe it or not there have been alot of times that I agreed with her. I just don't like how she likes to tell everyone to be mature and professional when she herself could use a little work on that. I'm sure she's a great person, there's no doubt in my mind. It's just the comment about guys being intimidated by her or jealous of her career position that really set me off. That and the fact that she is willing to criticize but not be criticized. And yes I do try to help probies out because I remember when it was me. But if she read my very first statement she would see that I wasn't actually doing that in this case. I think it was something like, "Yeah it happens." I have no problem with giving her a chance. You could be right. She could grow on me who knows?

Stay safe man!!!
Since we are talking about driving our POVs replete with whiz bangers, I thought you might find this interesting. Fresh from thesecretlist: http://firefighterclosecalls.com/fullstory.php?96863
