Engineco913 has posted a Seatbelt Pledge that YOU, my fellow Nation-ites, can sign.

No, you don't have to wear a gown that opens up the back

Yes, you can keep your shoes on

No, it won't hurt, it won't even pinch a little

No, it doesn't come in different colors

But yes, it DOES come with side effects......a healthier and whole fire and EMS service; the members of which will be more likely to go home to their loved ones if they adhere to the promise they are about to sign.

There are less than 100 signatures on this pledge, and I can't for the life of me fathom why?
There should be THOUSANDS of signatures by now. Save your brothers and sisters, save yourselves, and sign it.

What are you waiting for? To come home in a box?

If you have no legs can you run out of motivation? (creative bump shhh)
So a bump moves it back to the top of the blog... interesting... now if I just knew how to do a bump???
Bumped again
Sorry, I refuse to sign on principal.
We are in the business of public safety, ergo we shouldn't have to pledge to do what we should already be doing.

Furthermore, the use of seat belts is the law of the land.
Being safe on the fire ground is common sense, if you aren't smart enough to realize that, maybe you should be a cop.
Not treating everybody fairly and equally will get you sued in today's litigous society.

This is a feel good do nothing idea.
Here is a great example:
I pledge I won't drink and drive today.
On the surface, it is a great idea. Nobody should drink and drive. But what am I saying by making this pledge?
I am saying that I will not violate the law. Shouldn't I already want to obey the law without signing on to a pledge that says I will?
So what you're saying is that because wearing a seatbelt is a no-brainer, you're refusing to sign a promise to always wear yours because you always do and that the newer members of the fire service who may not be benefitting from that same principle in their own fire stations don't require any role models to look up to and to follow?

Let's say for example that there is statewide legislation pending the result of a vote to disband fire districts without due process, and allow the town boards to disband at will and govern their municipal fire departments, regardless of their expertise in that arena....now we all know that it's a bad idea.....so therefore you're saying that because we all KNOW it's a bad idea, we don't need to lobby our legislators or participate in the vote because it's common sense?

Faulty logic my friend. I appreciate your input, and I agree that we all SHOULD be wearing our seatbelts, but the fact of the matter is that we're not, and we're still out there dying and creating widows and orphans....so until the day comes that there is 100% compliance I'll sign every petition and pledge that comes down the pike, on the priniciple that the prevailing thought will eventually sink in with the up and coming fire service and become an automatic process, same as wearing nomex and donning scba's.
Hmmm... cute and with a brain too. Bump
saaaayyy.....

;)
bumpity bumpity bump
The pledge is an awesome idea, but keep in mind, not all the people who are on this site, use the forum. The number of people signed up may not reflect the number of people who actually visit the site as well. Although I agree, there are many more using this site than have signed... get your ass in gear.... but only sign it if you plan on living by it! And if you can't live by it, give your head a shake!
What's all the hub bub?
The pretty lady sez that youz sign it.
So, sign it.
Jake and Vinnie ALWAYS wear their seat belts. To and from the scene.
You should too.
Do it!
