Lord I thank you for my husband. This firefighter that I love. Give me strength to give him support with your guidance from above. Make me a good partner, attentive listener, my husband's best friend. When I chose him I chose a firefighter, and the job on which we depend. Lord, keep my firefighter safe when our plan's have gone awry, Answering an emergency call with a life or death cry. Keep the gusting winds and raging flames from being his final fate. Help me cope with the trauma of being a firefighter's mate.

I read this often..it helps me get through a lot of days of worry, being alone and waiting for that door to swing open in the morning! :) Hope this helps you too. Have a great day.
thank you so very much! :)
Alexis, my husband and I have been married for 25 years. He became a paid-on-call firefighter one week after we were married. I too had fears of a knock on the door that would bring bad news. As the years passed I got to know the firefighters that my husband works with and the officers that would be command on the fire ground. I learned to trust them, knowing they would do their best to keep everyone safe. I've also learned, there are no guarantees in this life. An accountant (safe job) loses their life in an auto accident, a child dies from a fall, a 56 year old man suddenly dies from a heart attack with no prior cardiac trouble and on and on. We must take each day as it comes. Love each other and live life to its fullest. My husband is now the Deputy Fire Chief(full time) of our department and our oldest son is a probationary paid-on-call firefighter. I trust my husband's judgment and that he will do everything in his power to keep all of his firefighters safe.
I am married to a vol. firefighter been for almost tree years, when we got together he was already a firefighter and I didnt know what I had in store for me when I got with him but I am with teresa on this one, I have gotten to know and trust the people he run the calls with and I know that they will try their best to keep them safe, but like teresa said, I to had to come to the fact there is no guarantees in life and that one day that I might get the dreadful knock on the door saying that my husband isnt coming back home to me or my 1 year old daughter and like she also said we have to live day by day, and live each day to the fullest and also it will get easier to me it did at least but sometimes when he goes on a call that involves a fire that he could get trap in and die I seat down and cry but a few mins later I go back to thinking he is with people that no matter what they will try their hardest to keep him safe and it makes me worry no more
