You get the tone for a working structure fire... arrive on scene to an obvious room and contents fire with smoke coming from the eves. You jump off the rig and head to IC for your assignment. IC tells you to run truck company ops. and vent the roof. So you walk to the engine and grab..... a chansaw? a K12? an axe?

I've seen all three used to vent a roof and can say that an experience ff can vent a roof with an axe just as quick as I can with either of the two power tools. Personally, I'm grabbing the K12. Even with it being heavier then the chainsaw, I find I can cut quicker and straighter with the K12. I also find it easier to roll over trusses with the K12. But hey... thats me, what are you using?

You carry a hose line to do ventilation?
Chain saw for wood - K12 with Demo Blade for Commercial ( covers Metal Decking)
Room and contents? A pike pole to take out the windows.
We did that in fire school, watched the exact video. It was a great way to ventilate a roof you can get up there and get a hole going while they are still checking the chain saw on the ground. Its also useful when the saws refuse to start because according to Mr. Murphy
aside from the part with out the roof ladder? I am not trying to be smart but wouldn't taking the extra few seconds to grab and deploy a roof ladder be worth the extra safety
Remember brother stay safe!
Two nights ago it was a Stihl chainsaw, 6ft trash hook, roof ladder and halligan. sometimes an ax for back up NY hook or 12 ft pike pole for Tall attic space.
