safety belts on apparatus
personally only one of our trucks have seatbelts, our other two do not.
I thank that a safety belt is good to use for just riding around, but not to good to use responding to a call, my reasoning with this is because with your turnout gear on it can become very cumbersome to try to fiddle with a belt.
Thease are my thoughts, i would like to hear other peoples views.

the fact is . . . seatbelt save lives. Whether you are riding in a car, van, pick-up or fire truck. Yes, I agree that they are cumbersome but all you need to do is read the news reports every week from firefighterclosecalls.com and hear how many fire trucks are involved in accidents across the country each week. Many of these accidents are roll overs.
The few extra seconds it takes to fumble around and buckle up or unbuckle when you get to the scene is well worth the investment. Also, depending how your insurance is you may not be covered if you are injured because you failed to wear a seat belt.

If you don't have safety belts in two of your trucks i suggest making an investment in saving lives, BEGINING WITH YOUR OWN!! Honestly now days what insurance company will recognize a vehicle that does not have safety belts? Maybe a madatory retrofit? Even a 15 MPH collision is gonna move you around in that cab.

Are you freaking kidding me? How many brothers and sister firefighters do we have to see ejected and killed in apparatus accidents before you "get it"? Cumbersome, schmumbersome! Put the frigging thing on and just maybe it'll save your life! This is just my opinion, but I think being around to see my children have children is worth having to struggle with a "cumbersome" seat belt.

We have safety belts on all of our vehicles. Nothing is allowed to roll unless we are seat belted in. We even had to sign a paper saying that we would use them.

Here is my opinion. Seat belts save lives. Cumbersome is an excuse and your department is crazy to offer belts in one apparatus and not in the other two. I know I know, it was made like that.... Ever heard of retro-fit?
So with that said, crashing and being hurt or killed in the non-belt equipped apparatus is a liability to the department, town, township, whoever owns the apparatus.

All of our apparatus have seat belts.If you are not buckeled up it will not roll this includes EMTs in the back of the bus.

Seat belts should be on every apparatus and should be utilized by every firefighter!

ok yea i know im young, but i know my shit, and i never said i didnt wear seat belts, i do every time im on a peice of apparatus, i watched one of our fellow fireman, put his head through a windsheld of his POV, because he didnt wear his seatbelt, so for every one calling me stupid and unexperienced, dont please!!

Seat belts save lives!! We all know that. I am suprised that the 2 other trucks do not have seat belts. I personaly would not get into a truck with out seat belts. It is not imposible to get our mask on while seated and belted.
I put the shoulder straps on and leave the waist belt until I exit the rig. This post is just nuts. Just my thoughts

I don't now about the rule in your state but in my state they set the rules for seatbelts. The rules apply to everyone in the vehicle and it does not exclude the fire department. So you must wear the seatbelts. If your in an accident and don't have your seatbelt on you will get a ticket. I have been on several accidents and if they would have been wearing seatbelts they probably would be here today. What is your department sop/ sog on wearing seatbelts.
