I was just wondering how many departments have Fire Police, and are they paid or vol. departments ?? Do they hold any type of peace officer status, or are they civilians ???
We don't have Fire police in the department I belong to, and was just wondering how many departments did. WOW IS THIS A HOT & HEATED DISCUSSION

Hey Bob, Thank you for sharing all that information with us. I also like the fact that you seem to
have all the right training that should be required in order to be on the fire police squad.
Again, thank you, stay safe brother.
Do we have anymore Department's out there that have
a Fire Police Squad within their department ??
my depsrtment has fire police. No they have no peace officer status but that would be up to the state.
Hey Robert, Thanks for responding to the discussion, and
for the information. Stay safe out there Brother.
Anymore departments have Fire/Police out there ???
Look in the mirror
What's your problem, can't you find something better to do then
just break peoples balls. You don't upset me with your sarcasm.
What I do, seems to bother you, to bad brother.
AH YES--FIRE POLICE--WE HAD THEM IN MY OLD DEPARTMENT IN NEW YORK (VOLUNTEER) NOW THAT I LIVE IN NORTH CAROLINA I TRULY MISS HAVING THEM--THEY ARE TRULY AN ASSET AT SCENES--WITHOUT THEM I FEEL THAT THEY TAKE US AWAY FROM THINGS THAT WE NEED TO BE DOING , I ALSO THINK IT IS GREAT FOR THE OLDER MEMBERS WHO DONT WANT FIGHT FIRE OR DO OTHER RISKY TASKS--IT KEEPS THEM ACTIVE IN THE DEPARTMENT AND THEY CAN HELP SOME OF THE YOUNGER GUYS OUT TOO
Hey Chris, Thanks for responding to the discussion. I can't agree with you more on that.
I am also from New York, we also had them in the department I was with, and here in
South Carolina in the department I am with know dosen't have them. We don't even have
the police respond to calls unless we call for them, and most of the time it takes forever
before they show up. Thanks again for being a part of the discussion. Be well, and stay
safe Brother.
I have to say that I have had many people here tell me that they thought it was
great that I reply back to them on my discussions. It's thoughtful, and the right
thing to do. How else do you have a discussion if you don't reply back to their
comment. As far as keeping my discussions going, what's the problem with that.
It dosen't seem to bother any one else here on the site. Do you have a problem with
that as well. As far as points go, I don't care if there wasen't any points. I would
continue doing just the same as I have been doing, and with out the points. Now as
far as the word association goes, I will add that I do get a little carried away at times,
and it dosen't seem to bother any one else, and others do it as well. So do me a favor,
and stay the hell out of my business. If you don't have anything good to say to people,
maybe you shouldn't say anything at all. Hopefully I won't here back from you. Hopefully
this will be the end of your sarcasm to myself, and others here on the site.
Most of Maryland east of the Chesapeake Bay or has most call The Eastern Shore have Fire Police units.
Some of them build or buy vehicles to carry or mount traffic control devices. I have seen old converted ambulances to brand new mini squad vehicles. One vehicle I have seen during the Maryland State Firemen's Convention is know as a H.A.R.T. Highway Accident Response Truck and has cones and a big arrow board mounted on the back of it.
According to Maryland State Fire Laws, Fire Police are considered Sheriffs Deputies maybe Aux Deputies.
I have thought more Fire Police could be used in more counties in Maryland because of the need for traffic control in a lot of areas.
It can be a mess getting traffic moved away and detoured from incidents. If you wait for DOT or PW to show it takes a while to get someone to come from home and get a truck and equipment and get to a scene where Fire Police could come from any fire station and start setting up.
while not in existance in florida i think that every state should have a provision for fire police with specific powers and authority espically in the post 9-11 world. being from the northeast ( long. isl NY) i used to think that fire police used to be the old guys that set up fire lines because they could not ride the trucks anymore. but now i see a definate need for them and they have a great purpose. if you dont have them you should and a nationwide model should exist
