I passed my civil service test, I passed my c-pat, I was a volunteer firefighter, and am currently a paid firefighter, I have my fire 2 hazmat-ops instructor 1 and medical 1st responder, tomorrow is my interview with a panel made up of a dist. chief captain hoseman and someone from HR. I've retyped my resume and gotten it down to 1 page straight to the point. I've made copies of my main certs and attatched them to my resume. ive looked over some samle oral-questions and am ready for my interview with a bazillion butterflies in my stomach...

any words of encouragement or some advice for me before the big event? there are 55 candidates who passed their civil service and c-pat. they department is looking to hire 12 of us for the academy. if you are hired you'll get a call by this time next week telling you when your medical exam will be... its getting down to nitty-gritty...

Hey Jonathan, I just want to wish the very best Brother, I'm sure you will do just fine.
Let me know how you do, be safe out there Brother. Mick
Thanks Mick, I'll be sure to update as soon as I get out tomorrow. I've got my Instructor 2 exam Thursday crossing my fingers on that too!

My interview was at 1400, I got there at 1335. I signed in and had a seat, the secretary walked in back and informed them I was there. I walked back 2 minutes later and greeted everyone. I handed over a copy of my resume and certs and they asked me some questions. I feel like I answered them to best of my abilities. About 20 minutes later they wished me luck and said I had nothing to be nervous about and I'd get a call by the end of next week at the latest. I shook their hands and thanked them for their time.
I go take my instructor 2 exam tomorrow, and friday I've got my officer 1 practicals. I'll finday out friday if I got the job or not, since the chief of training doing my practicals will know who they hired by then. So I'm going to be nervously awaiting the end of this month. Hopefully by middle of next month I'll be a full-time firefighter with my hometown and an IFSAC certified instructor2

Hey Jonathan, I told you that you would do just fine. Now take a few breathes, and try to
think about what you need to do on your exam tomorrow. One steep at a time. You sounded as if you presented yourself just fine. I'm sure you will get that call that you will be anxiously waiting for.
Be safe Brother, everything will fall in place. Mick
Well I spoke with the Chief Training Officer and while I was over he got a call from the captain from the interview and asked him about me. Chief told him good things and they said they liked me in the interview. So I'm relieved about that its almost 100% I got the job.

However, I took my test today, and I feel like I bombed it. Not extremely bad, but I don't feel like I made atleast a 70%. It's my fault for not having studied a day on this since I took my instructor 1 exam on the 26th last month. I was too worked up about my CPAT and training extra hard everyday for the past month that I completely forgot about even reviewing for my test. Well tonight I proved that regardless of how smart and lucky I am, if you don't even look over the material for atleast 10-15mins, it doesn't matter how lucky you are. It would be a miracle if I passed with a 70% (skin-of-my-teeth) but I'm not going to be upset if I failed it. Just means I have to study harder and retake it. I won't be discouraged! (But man oh man would it be amazing if I passed!!!)

P.S. I feel like now I can take a little break until July 16th(academy starting date) I'm still working out extremely hard, but gonna lay off the books for the rest of the month.
congrats! I just went through the same exact process with success. When in your interview be as sincere as possible and dont boast about your certifications instead of telling them about what you have cert wise tell them about things they you would like to get with their help.go in there very humbled and make them realize you arent cocky and that you dont know it all but you are willing to learn as much as they throw at you.We had 93 applicants and 27 get into the class.there were many more firefighters in there with much more experience than myself but they said bc of my humblness and willingness to learn i got in. man the best of luck to you let us know how it goes!!
So I passed my instructor 2 SOMEHOW?! And I also got the job with the city. My best friend (used to be my captain on my volley dept.) also got the job. So out of an initial 55 guys, he and I got 2 of the 12 open spots! I'm psyched!!! I passed my test, I got hired.... I could die happy haha, but I'd kinda like to wait a good 50+yrs before that happens ya know. Thanks for all the support! The academy starts on the 16th of July!

Congrats, that's brilliant! I hope to be in your position in about 6 months... my 'choice city' is hiring soon!

Keep safe.
