How many changes have you seen in your department since you have been on? When do you know it is time for change? How long after a change (i.e change in chiefs) does it take for things to go back to "normal"?

No change in our department in 10 years
If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.
there is always change going on. New members come on, older ones retire, others move on. New equipment and techniques are learned and implemented, sometimes later we revert back to the old method. Just like a regular family interpersonal disputes arise from time to time. Most of these are worked out quietly, some not so quietly.

Apparently there were some big changes in my volunteer dept. before I joined... built a new station and joined forces with another dept., so we're essentially one dept. now.

But, a couple years later, when I joined, it seemed to be running smoothly. And we've had some small changes since then. Small changes to our interior fire tactics, adding a new paid position, etc. For the most part, it's gone well.

I think it all depends on if people agree on the changes and how the changes are implemented. It's when there are factions supporting different sides, rough/ill-planned changes, etc. that real problems arise.
