This is a forcible entry question that I was hoping some of you have already dealt with. The local Costco will be installing a security bar system on the doors for after hours purposes in the near future and if we are getting them, then you can safely predict that the changes in security are corporate, which means that you may have to deal with the same issues as we are eventually.

The product is called “Ultra Dog®” and you can view it online. Here's an accurate drawing:

My department was only able to find a few things that we could ask for:
1- no key is required from the inside to unlock
2- no special instructions or skill required
3- one person operation

These will not be accessible from the outside so access operations will be difficult at best.

So... have any on you had to deal with this product and conduct actual forcible entry procedures? Your comments and suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Stay safe and train often! CB

Jack, I'm not sure, but is there not a law, if not Federal, or State that
prohibit the use of that type of Locking device on a Emergency Door,
or is that only when the building is occupied ???
Hey, Thanks Jack, talk to you soon, Mick
I think DT's image is a little clearer to see, and his analogy of a "double" panic bar looks to be right. Proper pre-planning should let us know these are here.

Entry looks to me to be pretty straight forward. Drill a hole through the door, and use the same tool (J tool) you would for the standard panic bar, except insert it into the hole instead of between the doors.

However, I do like the C4 plan.
I haven't read all the replies. So this may have been suggested before. My thinking is if you have a lock of this type I would like a warning sign or a simple sign for FF's ( ie.Costco Security Bars installed) to give us a heads up.What do you think?
Is there any windows? If i was in charge at that location an had to make rapid entry, i would break a window an gain access that way. It is much faster, an easier. Then send the entry team or one individual to open the door for the rest of the team.
Fire up the K-12!!! A breaching charge would work, but Buddah help anybody on the other side!!!
Most of your Wal-mart/Costco stores only have glass in doors that are usually unlocked. The emergency exits are windowless and set in concrete block. Loss prevention policy.
I would thiink you could attack this from several ways.
1. You could do a horizontal cut below the bolts that are on the outside of the door and open the door like a dutch door and then go and open the upper half normally.
2. You could saw or knock off the carriage bolt heads that the ultra dog is attached to on the outside, then use convential forcible entry on the push bar.
3. You can do a triangle cut out above the bolts and reach in and push the bar and open the door or you could do a kerf cut and use a coat hanger or a paint roller to pull on the door bar and ultra dog to open the door. or you could use a halligan to use the horn end to put a hole in the door and then drive the fork end of the halligan thru the hole and use it as a lever to push on the push bar and ultra dog to open the door normally.
