Federal Q siren....
Ok, here's the scoop.... Im not a official JR but am the closest thing to it as you can be... Anywho..my department is paying my way to a JR firefighter school for 5 days at WVU.. So I was thinking I could do something nice for them for a grattitude gift... Does anyone have or know anyone who has a federal Q2b...We just got a new rescue truck and it doesn't have one.. It is a sad situation really.. : ) They all agree that we need one but we just have other things to buy... I looked into one on FEDERAL signal new, and its a whole lot more money than I can dispense out at this time.. Just tell me what ya know!!! Thanks guys and be safe

Hey Jacob, try any auto salvage yard. Some of them have the Q on an old wrecked truck or they have taken them off to sell. On my old dept. we had a Capt. buy one from a salvage yard for $500. I think that may be your best bet. Or maybe find an old truck with it on it and see if the owner would be interested in selling the Q off of it.

Jacob, It's nice to hear your getting into the fire service, hope things are well in W.Va. Now I would do as Capt. ENG71INE has said thats a good start. But my friend now is the time to look...... there are a ton of fire dept flea markets starting since it's spring and a few of these companies put sirens and lights out for sale, and yes most of the buy's still work fine. Just a new part or two, a little elbow grease, and you have a new Q, and no one will be the wiser as to if it's a $1800.00 one or a $18.00 one. You can also check out e-bay occasionally they have a deal or two. As far as to where the flea mkts. are just start checking and asking around on fire dept. web sites and chat rooms or do as you did here post a question on who's having them and when. I collect old apparatus and old ambos and thats how I find parts. Best of Luck to you and enjoy the hunt.

Something else to consider is the size of the alternator on the truck. We sold an old truck to a neighboring department years ago. The took out the speaker that was mounted in the middle of the front of the truck and replaced it with a Q. Every time they would respond at night, the Q would drain the alternator and the headlights would go out. Not every truck can even use one.
