Hola,
Just wanted to get some honest feed back about how men feel about having women serve as FF. Please be very honest! The reason for this is:
1. I have witnessed society feels women can't do this job- we are to fragile , etc.
2. People think women that work around a bunch of men must be easy or having relations with at least one of the them
3. Sexual harrassment issues arise more often
4. Some men have trouble taking orders from a woman (or vice versa)
These are just a few of the things I have seen or heard about.. Please share y you feel this way

I'll say this, The women I know that are on the job have a hell of a lot more heart than a lot of the men I know. Nothing worth having comes easy or free, stand your ground and keep your chin up gals. Some of us really appreciate the job you do.
My opinion is women can do anything men can do....and even sometimes better. Women firefighters can hold there own and do not have to sleep with any of the others to get respect.
In EMS we DO have to have strength. You try getting a 450 man out of a semi truck that is smashed and then get this same man onto a gurney. After that heavy job you still have to pick that gurney up and into the ambulance. The job is not done yet. Now get him back out of the ambulance at the hospital and onto the ER bed. You want to talk strength.....we have strength. Working in a town that has a major highway going through we see a lot of truckers and unfortunatly A LOT of them in wrecks. Please don't think firefighters are the only ones who have heavy work. We also have mental strength....we are the ones scraping them off the road.
One of my finest officers is female. She was a hell of a firefighter. A hell of a driver and now she is one of my top officers and I have no doubt that someday she'll be a hell of chief.

What makes her good is the same thing that makes my other top hands good. She is passionate about the job and she works her ass off. Everything else falls into place then.
well i feel that women can be firefighters if they can do the job. just because you are a women doesn't mean that you can't be a firefighter, but if you are going to complain about the tasks at hand or the way that some people say things that could serve as a problem. and yes the possibility of sexual harrassment is higher and yes that may complicate things in the house or on a scene, but there is a women firefighter in my department and she can complete the tasks at hand. so it really comes down to being able to perform the duties. society has changed and i have no problems with them being in...so i am all for it as long as you do what you are supposed to do and thats that
oh my GOD.....can we PLEASE put this discussion to bed?????
Hey, sorry. Thought the point was to reply and add to the discussion. Sheeeesh
Funny you should say that, because if I'm having trouble getting to sleep, I open this thread and before you know it, I'm nodding off.
This dead horse has been beaten into glue.
But to summarize what has already been said, women in the fire service is OK as long as they don't drink and respond with a funny colored fire truck driven by a junior firefighter?
I think I get it.

OK, let's take a vote.

All those who agree that women can, do, and will make excellent firefighters and fire officers please signify by saying "Aye". (resounding chorus of ayes)

All those opposed to the idea say "Nay" (nothing heard, well maybe a few squeaks here and there)

The Ayes have it. Let it be thus.
THANK YOU!!!

It's been 13 pages of the same four responses reworded into banality.
I simply couldn't take any more.
post script: ad infinitum, ad nauseum
Hmmm, better look that up in my Latin-English dictionary...
