Does anyone know of somebody I could talk with those done this before, I'm traing to get into shape now and I've come along ways so far and in the next couple of years I'd like to give the Challenge a try. I've looked on their website with no luck really.

Thanks, TJ

Hey TJ,
I'm one of the editors of FireRescue, and I've worked closely with Jeff and Martha Ellis on their Survival of the Fittest column for years. I encourage you to check out the column, which covers everything from getting back in shape to more advanced workouts like plyometrics. And they're the experts when it comes to preparing for the Challenge. Martha won the women's division five times and Jeff won two overall championships and three Over 40 Championships. They're an impressive couple, to say the least. They post PDFs of a handful of their fitness columns at http://www.fit2serve.com/FRMFitnessPDFs.
Additionally, in August 2008, FireRescue ran a feature called "Up to the Challenge: Shake up your daily PT with an improvised firefighter combat challenge course" by Daniel Neal. I've attached a PDF of the article here. I hope it helps.
Every time I'm at a Challenge event, I'm blown away by the athleticism of the participants. It's amazing.
Good luck prepping for the Challenge!!
Janelle

Hey TJ. Martha Ellis here. Which competition are you planning on attending? I'd like to know how much time you have to train. ME
