Chevrons on the rear of apparatus, your thoughts?

The 2009 version of NFPA 1901is going to mandate chevrons on the rear of apparatus, like they do in Europe. I think it's a great idea who's time has finally come. I'm sure many FF's and civilian's lives will be saved by this. We need to be visible out there. Some F.D's have been doing this for a while, (see the JPG below). What do you think?

Just curious...does your department wear those ridiculous, almost useless SCBAs, or those ridiculous, almost useless flash hoods, or ride in those ridiculous, almost useless enclosed cabs instead of on the tailboard?

I heard the same kind of complaint about SCBAs, flash hoods, and enclosed cabs as I hear about the hi-viz chevrons on the apparatus.

I guess it's too much to ask if your firefighters wear those ridiculous, almost useless seat belts when responding or returning.

Well i think it the best thing they could have done for the safety of firefighter and other people driving on the road finaly something that was done smart

We liked them so much we have them on the front as well. But before you go dissing them, why don't you see how well they work...

Grand job, well done for you. Now if you would go stand over there and take your previous statements with you because clearly you are not tuned in on the same frequency as me when it comes to keeping your apparatus or crew safe. When I say stand over there meaning anywhere but near me! Only joshing by this comment, opinions are like ass holes- everyone has got one :)

Ok, so the question is, have you seen a difference in driver reaction vs those appliances which have just reflective striping? Like the website BTW.

Yes, the ones with reflective striping are very common and are the older version of the box print. The box prints defiantly increases the appliances visibility from afar and also close up, along with the chevrons it is highly effective and productive. You still have to remember there is still going to be accidents no matter what is done!
