Firefighter Ticketed for Leaving Accident Dismissed From Department
WOLCOTT, Vt. (AP) -- A Wolcott volunteer firefighter who received a traffic ticket for leaving an accident involving his own car while on the way to fight a fire has been dismissed from the department.
Thirty-seven-year-old Matthew Secich (SEE-kitch) says he was stunned when he was fired by the town's fire chief.
In a statement in a local weekly newspaper, the department said Secich's dismissal followed a lengthy investigation of the accident and Secich.
On Jan. 15 Secich lost control of his vehicle and rolled over near the station while responding to a chimney fire. He wasn't hurt.
Secich ran to the station. He says a second firefighter was required on the truck and he told the sheriff's department about what happened.
He was given three traffic tickets.

It appears to me that there is more of this issue than is being told. If one reads between the lines, I'd say there was probably a driving history.

Well if we would stop Monday Morning Quarterbacking we might eventually find out all the details instead of offering our opinions, thoughts or whatever. True we are not above the law and yes he should of stayed with his vehicle from there we need all the details to determine if being let go by the volunteer department was the right decision or not.

Monday morning quarterback is what this site is....How else can you respond to a question but to the information provided....I don't think anyone here was there at the scene...?? He obviously was going a little too fast....or else he wouldn't have ended up rolling over.....cars are fairly stable if they stay on the wheels....you know....rubber side down......?? Paul

You are no help to the people in distress if you wreck on the way! Now someone has to help you! In this case he wasn't injured but what if he was trapped. SLOW DOWN! it was a chimney fire to boot!

My first thought was the whole incident may have been a mass of tangled communications.
But, then I'm only guessing and I don't know any details about this incident or Secich's history or the history of relations between the fire department and the sheriff's department.
One would hope that in general the sheriff's department and the fire department work together well in servicing their comunity.
