Alright folks, even though we work hard at the fires, we usually find something to chuckle about when we return to the station and begin cleaning hoses, refilling air packs and so on.

Here's my departments latest: I live in Northern Lower Michigan and am a member of a damn fine dept. Last November we responded to a mutual aid call for a structure fire. As usual, we were doing the interior attack when we happened to notice the television was still on.

Though we were a bit suprised the power had not yet been cutoff, we got a kick out of the fact that we could do an interior attack and watch Sportscenter at the same time. Unfortunately, our fine work did not make the top ten plays of the day...

I am guessing instead of assisting the sturcture you watched the tv LOL Nice...
there is a sene like this in "rescue me", the cheif has placed a bit and needs to watch the game, so why not in a burning building?
Hey! your number one on your list. You did the job and went away laughing.
sweet...
TOO Funny
at least you had something to do during the commercials...
We had a call like this a few years ago, it was in a pub/lounge. I had frequented this lounge before, so, more or less knew the lay out. Fire started in the back corner at one of those driving arcade machines, the fire burnt through the ceiling and melted a PVC water pipe which more or less put the fire out.
Me, my twin brother, and the captain make entry though the front door. Smoke, no fire. There was already a team that went in through the back and had finishes the fire off. So we sit and wait for the ok to either get out or put water on it. I notice one of the TVs on, so while we waited, I watched the NHL trade deadline until we got the ok to leave.
We were at a fire and one of the men had left and was talking to a fellow firefighter on his phone complaining about the opperation and he did not realize till another firefighter at the scene called him to tell him to check his portable radio. Yes the portable was frozen in the open position so many firefighters heard it at the scene. NICE HUH !!!!
can we say OPEN MOUTH INSERT FOOT?? LOL
Reminds me of an almost identical fire I was on a few years back (oddly enough Im on a department in the Upper Penninsula of MI) Myself and the Asst. Chief where doing an interior attack on a mutual aide structure fire and while we were knocking down the fire in the dinning room/kitchen of this house we thought we could hear what sounded like someone talking. At first I thought it was just my head messing with me but I asked if he could hear anything and he said he could hear it too. We made our way through the rooms we got to the family room area and the sound was getting louder and louder. Eventually we made it to the source of the noise and it was the TV blarring away. This was just one of many odd things at that fire, the first odd thing I found was when making the initial knock down on the fire in the kitchen I found a window A/C unit sitting on top of the kitchen stove (yes they had been using it that way!!!)
a few funny ones come to mind. Once a buddy of mine answered the ringing phone and told the caller that the house was on fire could the occupant call back later?? Another was a buddy who hid his fireworks in his bunkerpants when the Chief suddenly arrived, low and behold a working structure fire call and it wasn't until it was all over that he realized that was in his pocket!!
We had a call like this one a few years ago. Structure fire confirmed entrapment. While searching we came to a bed room with the door closed. Could see the tv flickering under the door. Searched the room Thinking he would be inthere. Ended up he was @ the store. Can't remember what was on the tv lol
