I am looking at buying a video projector for an upcoming training class in a couple of weeks. Since this will be an out-of-pocket expense I'm looking in the under-$1000 range.

What brand/model do y'all use for training? Any recommendations or warnings?

Get the most lumens you can afford. This will make a huge difference. Also, be aware that the bulbs can be very expensive to replace. We have had really good luck with the Epson models.
Oh, yeah the bulbs caused a huge increase in my "pucker factor" today when I was browsing on line. $200 or more for a bulb? Sheesh.
Joe;

Try talking with your local school district and see if they will allow you to borrow one. They are usually more than happy to help out if it relates to education. If you do purchase your own, make sure that you consider the audio needs as well. Some do not have the best hook ups and capibilities in the world.
I am going to agree with you. Most school districts are willing to work with local fire departments on equipment lending. Why spend money out of your pocket when you can use something that came from tax dollars for the fire department?
Too late Andy! I went ahead and bought an InFocus projector last week. I've been playing with it a little and it's pretty straightforward. I had the option to borrow one from the county, but with all the running around and the enormous training tool it can be, I decided to purchase one.

Thanks to all who replied!
Sean, I've been treating it like a baby - no worries there. I have gotten a lot of positive feedback about the presentation so it was well worth it. It has opened up a lot of new possibilities for inside training as well.

I'll worry about the bulb when the time comes.
