DETROIT (AP) -- Authorities say a fire that damaged a Detroit firehouse was started by a towel that a firefighter used to shade a lamp while he was reading the Bible.
The Ladder 14 company crew returned from fighting a blaze early Tuesday and found their firehouse in flames.
The Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News report investigators say a firefighter had draped a towel over a lamp to shade it while he read his Bible.
Fire Department Capt. Steve Varnas said the firefighter forgot to remove the towel when he and the rest of the company went to fight the other fire.
Varnas says the fire was considered accidental.
Investigators did not immediately respond to a call seeking additional information Wednesday, including whether the firefighter would face discipline
I just wanna know... did they save the TV and the couches???? hehehe
On a serious note... Just glad noone was hurt in either fire... yall stay safe up there in Motorcity, or I will send all this Carolina snow your way :P
The brothers in Detroit can't catch a break. A LODD, no money for gear, people stealing their dinners and now a firehouse burning down. At least no one was injured in this fire.
This is what happens when the city does not update stations. I am sure they had not updated the main breaker to accomidate the needed demand. I doubt this will be the last time this happends as funding drys up and the public refuses to pay, to upgrade things. My real fear is how many will get hurt or die before we change public expectation or fund the departments. The public wants everything they see on TV yet are not willing to fund it. If you change the response standards they scream for a better response. Sorry, just venting.......
