Ciggerettes on the fireground

What is everyones policy on smoking during/after a fire? Just wondering how the rest of the world did it.

I never smoked but you could put a hole in the face piece to stick the cigarette out and as long as you keep the filter in the hole it should filter out the bad stuff. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our department has a no smoking policy on the fire ground in the fire equipment or in the fire house. if a member wants to smoke they go out side.

No smoking on calls, at trainings or other FD functions, or on FD property.

here we can smoke as long as we are not doing anything on the fire ground and only outside the buildings during anything else

Anyone hired since 1/1/1995 has to sign a preemployment agreement for non-tobacco use. People on before 1/1/1995 can't use it on duty but they put their heart/lung disability coverage in great jeopardy. If our Chief (former smoker) saw someone light up on the fire ground or in a rig he would go nuts.

Our policies don't specify anything about on the scene. However, our policies do say no smoking in the station or on the trucks. But as WestPhilly said...policy is different than practice.
We have nothing about chewing tobacco.

We can smoke in the bay area (as long as it's not around the oxygen bottles) during fires, if we are taking a rest you can smoke, no smoking on medical calls,and no smoking on the trucks.

Well... we have rules saying no smoking in the apparatus or on scene. Everybody respects the apparatus rule just becasue people, like me, are gona be pissed if I get into the rig and it smells like cigarette smoke. On scene, guys still arent supposed to do it for a couple of reasons, it looks unprofessional, its not healthy and your body is already under enough stress on the fire scene, and you should be busy enough on scene to where you dont have time to smoke a cig. Unfortunatly, we have quite a few guys who still do it on scene.

As far as smoking in the house goes, the bayfloor is the only place you can do it. Everywhere else is off limits

I do not know the depts policy but i do not like it at all.
