I'm in my last month of EMT academy. I start my hospital time next week.. WE're required to have PPD tests (tb test). I had one done thats clean in October so I wasnt worried. WEll the first one had a reaction. So 2 days ago I got one done again and again a reaction. The guy said its not a total TB reaction but still a reaction. I had a chest xray done for a car accident (spun out in the snow and slammed into my steering wheel). What are they going to do since I cant come clean for test and I dont think I have TB. Im scared I'm gonna get kicked out of class after working my ass off...

From what I understand as long as you have an X-ray done and it doesn't show anything you should be ok, I wouldn't Think they would kick you out.
What they usually do is a chest xray and they let the radologist read it. It could be that ur just sensitive to the skin test and not a "positive" reaction. I worked with some who couldnt have the skin test so we had to send them to get an xray. If you know u havent been exposed since ur last skin test, i wouldnt worry.
I am a health care worker and when I started my nursing school I never tested postive.. Then the sec year had a reaction, had it again the third year and had a bad one.. At the hospital I work at is a disease specialist.. She told me it was a postive false and to never get any more.. so now i just get the chest exray.. Alot of people test this way.. No worries.... Go to a DR and get a note...
What will happen is that they will recommend that you take INH 900 mg and B-6 100 mg twice a week for 9 months...No....This will NOT stop you from joining the Fire Service....And don't worry...basically it means that somewhere along the line you were exposed to someone who has TB....BUT....as a word of caution...once you have a positive skin test you should NOT have another test...you would be suseptable to a more severe reaction in the future.....Make sure you take meds as indicated if ordered by your physician....this is very important.....Good luck....Paul...ps...your Doctor should have told you all this anyways....
I work with several people that had positive skin tests, but had an x-ray done and it was negative. It just takes a little longer to get the x-ray, but won't hinder your academy any.
ok, I just got it read. Its all blotchy and red and looked bad but they said Im fine bc its smooth so I'm allergic to the shot but dont have TB... Thanks everyone for making me feel better!
