Five Firefighters Injured, Four by Live Wire, in Allentown, Pa. Multi-Alarmer (Videos)

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) -- Nearly four dozen people are homeless after a fire severely damaged three apartment buildings in Allentown.

The city had to demolish two of the buildings after the Saturday morning blaze. Thirty-two adults and 13 children have been displaced.

Officials say five firefighters and two residents were treated for minor injuries at nearby hospitals. Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski says four of the firefighters were hurt by a live electrical wire.

The fire was reported in one building at around 9:40 a.m. It quickly spread to a building nearby.

Investigators say the cause of the blaze remains under investigation, but that it appears to have been an electrical fire.

Get well soon Brothers.
This is a reason why we as a whole need to push for underground utilities on all new constructions and major renovations.....get well soon brothers
I hope the FF get well soon. I am hopping that the IC called for utilities and they just haven,t arrived yet. This is a good fire for the discussion of a safety officer, and the FD carring wire cutters the same as the utilities do, so the job can be done RIGHT NOW.
Know my prayers are with you brothers, get well soon.
My prayers are with you brothers get well soon and God bless you all.
there have been to many times having a house fire the ic will call the county about getting the utility's shut off and the county will most of the time come back and say " the standard, or 1 to 2" (hours that is) and i have always wondered how we are to put a fire out with a live wire. i live in a small town and im still new at fire fighting. GOD SPEED AND OUR BEST WISHES. FROM TROY VOL. FIRE CO. TROY PA
Utilities are notified as soon as the ticket is signaled a "working fire" by I/C. The crew advanced up a metal fire escape within minutes of arriving and as you can see in the video, there are a crap load of wires next to the fire escape. Apparently they were moving and came in contact with the metal escape. It was a while until the power company arrived. But you can't wait for the power company. Thats the risk you take in this job. All the brothers are okay.
