Ok, so, I've got a Minitor IV pager, the newest version before they switched to the new style V's. I put my pager in the charger, the light comes on, then it starts to blink sporadically and the batteries in my pager don't seem to hold a charge. Now this is the second charger that I've been issued that's done this. Just wondering if anyone else has had any kinds of issues like this, and if so, what can a guy do to avoid this problem. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Try using either rubbing alcohol and clean the contacts in the charger and the bottom of the pager. Sometimes evena pencil eraser will work to get the film off the contacts.

Another thing you can do is get a spare set of batteries and charge them in the rear charger.
I also have the same problem. What I do is just use regular AAA batteries and it seems to work just fine.
John do you use rechargeable batteries or regular batteries because if you are recharging regular batteries there is a chance it could explode.
Are you talking about the light on the pager, or the charger?

The M4 charger lights should not blink at all, but should illuminate when the batteries are correctly installed in the charger.

Assuming that you are talking about the pager light, I think that means that the low battery alarm is tripped due to low battery voltage. Like Turk said, make sure the contacts on the bottom of the pager are clean. If they are, take the batteries out of your pager and charge them in the spare battery slot on the pager. You can use standard AAA batteries in the radio while the others are charging.

It could be that your batteries are no good, even though you got them "new" from the Chief or whoever deals out your radio stuff. We have had bad runs of batteries before, even just off the shelf from the dealer. We run nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries in ours and they need at least 24 hours, probably more like 36 hours to fully charge in a M4 charger.

Turk also said to not charge the alkaline AAAs in the charger. Believe him.
When I use regular batteries I don't place the pager in the charger.
First off, thanks for the help on this one.

It is the light on the charger itself, I tried cleaning the contacts on the pager and the charger ( I noticed one of the contacts on the pager was a little out of line, but that should have affected it in the first place).

As for the replacement/up-keep of gear, he has been one of the better ones that we have had.
Thanks again.
The cord could be getting a weak connection to to wire flexing. Have you tried to take the batteries out and use just the battery charger instead of charging the pager? Having a spare set of batteries wil help in this.
This is a problem with the charger. We have issued several new pagers to our firefighters and had them come back with the same concerns. It is a Motorola issue. All we have done is throw the chargers away and issue them a new one. Seems to be a re-accuring theme with Motorola. We are now after 30 years of using this garbage going to a new pager company. We are tired of the BS with Motorola.
Could it be the batteries?
we only use min. II and III's but the concept hasn't changed much, i usally issue two new batteries, and the problem is fixed (either that or they just don't tell me it still doesn't work...)

yes we just got minitor v pagers and some charge some dont. take the battery out of the pager and charge it in the front of the charger. they take a better charge that way.

I've used a second set of batteries in it, and it still does the same thing.
I'm pretty sure there was another one of our members that was having the same problem, he got issued a new charger as well.

I'm thinking I am just going to have to rotate batteries until I can get a new charger...
I konw that you have a minitor 4 but we have minitor 5's and are having troubles with the chargers squeling and some are having troubles getting their pager to charge. This is an issue with motorola and it is a defect. It may pertain to the charger for the 4 also. Try to find out who your supplier is and see if you can get it replaced. They are replacing a bunch of our chargers
