We are looking to get new helmets, are there any that you have preference over? What kind and why? Are any safer or easier to wear?

Hi Jeremy, It's Cameron From Argyle-I'm sure U have seen the new helmets some of got @ Chief Show-The 1044 Defender-I had a 1010 b4 and I like the 1044 better-It's lighter, The tail is not as long so it don't hit the air bottle as much and the hideaway sheild has more protection then old sheilds and looks better then goggles when not in use and don't get in the way of flashlight, camra, wedges, or anything else u want to add to helnet.
PS U may want to check out THIS IS MY HELMET group on FF Nation. Just guys talking about helmets.

Hope it helps.

Stay Safe, C U Around,
Cameron
Jeremy, I would have to say "Leather Forever" but with reality and cost in mind we supply 1010's for our guys. I have not yet seen a 1044 Defender in person to form an opinion on it.
Jeremy, All my guys wear the 1044. We bought them to save on shields and the safety side. So far we like them alot.
i wear a cairns new yorker, but it was passed down the family, my department went from 660 metros to 880s traditionals about 2 years ago, everyone relly seems to like them. the only drawback that we're hearing is some guys don't like the longer tail because it hit you tank during SAR
I have used Cairns as well as sold them for a company that I used to work for. I found them to be the top of the line both modern and traditional. Cairns has the unique break away if you have a FF that would get hung up after going through a floor or stairwell the shell will break away from the impact cap. That works as well for the FF that takes a blast from a hose stream the shell will break away from the impact cap. For my money it’s Cairns all the way. I own 3 of them LOL.
I agree with "Leather forever", its like wearing a glove, I have two myself, but for the money (If your thinking traditional) a 1010, or the Ben Franklins are my vote. They give you that traditional style with a 660 budget. Hope this helps.
just bought 2 Phenix 1500-20o7 helmets to see how they were -- I hate helmets-- but these are OK

lightweight and well balanced. Attached goggles don't seal as well as I would like , would love the the slide down face shield like MSA has (I think) but wasn't an option with them.

Just came off the line after 3 hours wearing it and I never thought twice about it being on -- now for me that says a lot

used Cairns Metro prior to this, would sure hate to go back
personally the 1010 and 1044 are the same helmet just a different finish.and the 1044 is lighter and cheaper so id go with the 1044
1044 DEFENDER. that is all I issue in Wallingford Vt. anything MSA is really good really there 1010 are nice too.
I like the carins 1010 i've had on for 3years and love it
we have cairns 360's and 660c's i had bought a paul conway american classic i like it alot better than the departments helmets it has a center of gravity adjuster and it's a real low profile and it wasn't that much either and i got the bourkes and ess goggles with it
In the Philippines Bullard helmets are mainly used by the govt. but any helmet available is used by the volunteers.
