Scott.
We just received a FIRE Act grant to upgrade our SCBAs.
We had sales reps come in for Scott, MSA, Survivair and ISI and after much comparison, research, discussion and demonstrations, we decided that Scott would fit our needs the best.
And they will meet the 2007 NFPA standard.
So, what are the rest of you using?
If you were the decision maker for your department, would you buy more of what you got or would you get something else?

we use survivair at the time. We had scott and did not like them. If we had a choice now it would be the new m7 msa. By far the best pack.
We just recently bought 16 Scott packs and we are having the same problem. The integrated pass device, heads up display are where our problems are at. We don't have the quick connect but they are great anyway. We are looking at putting duracells in them to see what duration they last. You might want 2 try that.

We use scott, the others are good, execpt ISI, don't know anything about that type. We used survivair before we got our grant back in 2006. Our commitee did a ton of research and compared scott, MSA, survivair. The scott was the overall best choice for us.
Not sure if you heard about what had happened in California in reference to the surviveair packs.there was a lawsuit on packs not working properly. I would look to getting those fazed out if you continue having problems with them.
They should be available .
Well I have used several over the years but the one thing to remember is everyone is different. To be honest in my opion the 2 best going is MSA and Scott. The other thing you have to look at though is service. If you have a company in your area that sells a SCBA unit and is able to service your units right away compared to some who are sold from a area that that takes them awhile to service your units it can be bad. Since you have already ordered you know what you want. Just make sure you have a good service rep or that they will train ya'll how to service your own units. Always look at that and if that is what your dept. is going to keep that one company then ask about getting a couple of your guys into learn about thier packs.
We just got a grant ourselves. We had demo's for MSA, Survivair and Interspiro. I think the decision was to go with the new MSA packs. Right now we have Interspiro and they need to be replaced. I can't wait to get the new MSA packs. The one thing that I hate the most about the interspiro is the fact that the face piece is always connected, making breathing ambient air very difficult.
We switch to Scotts about 4 years ago, we had always had MSA. I was a little reluctant for the switch, but after using for the last few years we will not purchase anything else. Highly rated, we have had no problems with them. We did not get the integrated face piece, so cant help with that. Hope they work for your dept.
We got a grant about this time last year bought new packs also. We looked at all the vendors and narrowed it down to two MSA and scott. after comparing them side by side we went with the scott NXG2 with all the options. we dont really have a problem with the batteries they have lasted us about four or five before needing to be replaced.
Weve had the 4500 scott packs for a while now. They have the heads up display, quick connect, all that good stuff and I really havnt seen any problems with them. I think we have changed the batteries only once or twice and weve had em for two years now. I've never put one on and had the batteries go dead so IDK why some others guys are. We do use duracell brand batteries but I wouldnt think just the brand name would make an 8 month difference in how long they last. Anyway, i think you will really like them
Having used them when I was in the U.S. I'm a Scott AirPak 50 4.5 fan myself, but unfortunately down here in Australia Tyco/Scott push the inferior/cheaper British Sabre SCBA's (they acquired the Sabre company about 4 years ago). Some fire services down here have the budget to get top notch gear and when one of the largest went out to bid they wanted to try the NXG2 and AirPak 50 but Scott never showed up and they went with Draeger's for their nearly 50 stations. My volly department is going to bid next year and we currently use MSA's but the expectation is that we will be going to Draeger's apparently. Will be interesting to see if Scott show up with anything other than the Sabre low bid stuff.
I've always had MSA ...Just a preference I guess...Like the product ..they always been good to me...not hardly any problems...even in the coldest climate, and crappy situations....
