What brand of leather helmet do you run? Mine is an '02 Cairns Sam Houston N6A. I actually bought it off eBay for $270. Got it and looked it up, the helmet is a deluxe version..its sells for about $500 or so brand new. Not a bad deal..

I am on my 4th New Yorker. Started out in my 1st volunteer department with a New Yorker, then moved and went into a different vollie house that had 1010s. Well, I wasn't hearing that so I took my old helmet with me. I retired that one to my wall at home and bought myself a new one. I got a paid job that uses 1010s but I was allowed to wear leather, so I bought another one. Its been 14 years of wearing leather and you'll never see me wearing anything else. LEATHER FOREVER!
I wear a Sam Houston. I've had it for about 2 shifts now and I love it. I wore a NY'er before and loved it as well. At my other FD, I wear a Morning Pride and it's comfortable but it can not compare to leather.
I have two Sam Houston's. My first is a black 1996 model refurb in 2006 and a white deluxe 2007 model. The black one has been placed on a shelf for now but it is ready to go back in service at a moments notice.
I wear a Cairns New Yorker. about 20+ years old
Here are some pictures of them.

I was wondering I dont have a leather helmet but I really want one so I joined this group anyway but I need some insight as to what to get I am leaning towards the Cairns New Yorker I have a 1010 now and I like it I have never wore a leather but I just want one so give me some ideas, info etc...
07 Carrns New Yorker N5A i love this helmet
leather is MUCH heavier, but also MUCH MORE traditional, and classier. There are also some benefits when it comes to durability and how long they last. I wear an N6A, but that is because of our local rules about NFPA. There is nothing better than leather!
