Can anyone help me....? i mean it didnt bother me when i was on scene...butt now since im homee its botherin mee ...i cant seem to sleep...can anyone give m advicee
IT HAPPENS TO ALL OF US, DON'T LET ANYONE TELL YOU DIFFERENTLY. IT SOUNDS LIKE YOUR DAD WOULD BE A GOOD PERSON FOR YOU TO TALK TO. IT WILL TAKE TIME BUT YOU WILL GET THROUGH IT. I ALWAYS TRY TO SHIELD OUR NEW MEMBERS FROM SCENES LIKE THAT UNTIL THEY HAVE MORE EXPERIENCE, IT SEEMS TO HELP OUT ALOT, THIS IS ALSO WHY WE DONT ALLOW JUNIORS ON MVA'S, THEY ARE NOT READY EMOTIONALY TO HANDLE IT EVEN THOUGH THEY THINK THEY ARE. I CAN STILL CLEARLY REMEMBER MY FIRST FATALITY,I PROMISE IT TAKES TIME BUT YOU WILL MAKE IT.
Hey bro kick back on the couch turn on the weather channel and take an aspirin with a glass of water. These things happen everyday, remember as a kid going through drivers' ed and they told you how many people died everyday and so on in wrecks. It's their time to go. God has a plan for everyone. Everything happens for a reason. You did the best you could do and you need to remind yourself of that. You're a Firefighter, an everyday hero, but you're still just human. We do the best we can everyday, and that's all people can ask from us. It's always hard the first time, and to be honest its not something that gets easier, you just learn to deal with it and accept that it's a natural thing. Talk with your brothers and sisters, its easier to share with those who were there. Take care Cody and be safe!

P.S. Here's something to hopefully make you smile!
thanks for all the advice and i know God has a plan for everyone...but this will be my first year as a full tme fireman....and i thought i was really emotionally ready to handle my first fatality and it didnt bother me at all on the scene i was doin my job like i was supposed too....but it didnt really hit me until i got homee and started to actually think about it..
Help Cody right now deal with this loss and all he has faced in this incident. You know his need. Cover his mind with your peace and give him rest. Help him to get the sleep he needs and the strength to go on and continue to do his job with strength and alertness and keep him safe.
Cody,
You are getting some good advice from the other members. Talk to your dad, and if it doesnt help call some of the other members that were with ya. And most of all the CISM team. For me, my family helped me get thru some incidents. especially when it involved kids or young adults.
