What do you use to conduct these tabletop exercises? Do you draw them out on a dry erase board, or do you use model vehicles? Do you have your SOP/SOG present to use as a reference?
We have a big role of paper so we draw it out and we use models . Yes we do have our sogs .
Do you use intersections in your district that tend to be problematic?
Yes we do . In fact all of our drawings are of places in our area .
We save the dry boards for nights when we have state of emergencies passes the time as we stay over at the house and eliminates injuries at bad weather condition drills..we do size up what would you call for ic drills radio drills so all know how to use them..scott change out is always a good quick table top refresher...
you could also use the 5 man,5 min rule. Its always a good excercise ,ecspeailly for day time crews , it helps them stay aware of the inconsistancies ,when you dont have a perfect world to respond with.It keeps them thinkin when you dont get full engines and mutial aid like you would always expect. It can be a very enertaining table top project.
Sounds like a good drill, I have a few questions about the drill. What kind of set up do you use? Did you design it after something in your district ? What extra materials do you need? This sounds like a great drill I can't wait to try it. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Damon, Table Top exercises are great. To further test ones knowledge of our community I have downloaded many photo's of fires, MVA's, etc. for training purposes. These photos are then assigned an incident type, given a location, what is available for equipment & manpower.....then you are the IC What would you do?
To make it more interesting another incident may be added while en route or while trying to control this one. These cover all our town and gets the FF thinking.
I have some samples I'll gladly send you if you want. Contact me at nrs5f@comcast.net in subject add drill samples request.
Stay safe, train often and share knowledge. Norm
Norman, if you would be willing to share, I'd like to get copies of your drills myself. I am in the process of finalizing my department's training calendar for next year and have a few holes to fill in.
Hi Brent, I would be happy to give you some copies. I am also open to sharing training ideas and knowledge. E-mail me at nrs5f@comcast.net. and I'll send them right out. They are in word, Microsoft XP so all you'll have to do is replace our road/street names with yours, etc. Best of luck. Stay safe, train often and share knowledge. Norm
