What are the policies at your fire department regarding strobe lights on your POV? If you require an ID to run lights, where did you get them? What kind of information should be on these IDs?

Ye gods. Not again :(
I think there is a law about how much amp there is suppose to be on a light to run on a POv, I think 1 amp,but heck everybody runs with big ass lights and as long as they don't abuse them no one ever says anything. Also you are suppose to carry a blue light card inwhich the chief is suppose o hand out... I have a visor strobe light on my colbolt... . works just fine ..
Every state is different we are allowed pretty much anything we want in iowa as long as it is blue or blue/white. We also need to have "blue light permits" and "white light permits" to run them. there are two seperate permits because only EMT/paramedics can run white lights. We get blue lights from the chief and it has to be signed by him. We get white light permits from the EMS captain who signs them and then gives them to our chief for approval.
My department requires all firefighters running blue lights to carry their IVFA card. It states that our chief has given permission for that individual to run those lights.
In Arkansas, we just spend our entire paychecks on lights (it's like a competition lol) then we just go to the calls. As long as no one gets too stupid, pd and so don't give us any trouble. By the way, the most lights I've ever seen on one pov cost about $5000. Full visor LED,LED stick in front windshield, LED's on the mirrors, strobes in the headlights, fog lights, turn signals, brake lights AND reverse lights, plus two LED sticks in the back window, not to mention the siren...
In New York State there is a card that is supposed to be carried in your vehicle...it is an authorization to display "BLUE" lights...signed by the chief (Firefighters have to use "Blue" lights on their POV's).....Paul
