I was looking at multi tools and dont know which one to buy. What is your personal favorite and why. Is one brand better then the other, are the more expensive ones better or do they just have more gadgets to make them seem better. Any info is appreciated.

I like Gerber. I have had one for about 10 years now. It's easy to open wit hjust a flick of the wrist. The only drawback which may be corrected by now is the blades/tools dont lock.
I carry a gerber with the locking mechanism on it and love it. If only it had an electric screw driver!!
I've got a brand-spanking new Channel Lock multi-tool which has made me the envy of my department.
It has hydrant, pry, gas valve, glass break, pliers, cutters....

I haven't tried it out on making julienned fries yet, but I think it makes those too.
:)
LOVE it.
And since I'm not a stingy jackass, I keep it in the tool bucket on our first due so that everyone can play with it.
i love my leatherman wave as well. hand down, the best one i've used. like ted, i feel no wallet guilt either. i had mine issued to me when i came out to iraq. when i got back, i found out our supply people had moved on to another type of multi-tool, and they never asked for mine back :D
Ever since I went through a Firefighter survival course several years ago, I've carried a standard Leatherman tool in a leather holster duct taped to my upper left suspender strap. It's a simple matter of undoing one snap and reaching in with my right hand. And yes, I've practiced this move. A little more difficult to reach with the left hand though!
Have you checked out the new 6 in 1 Rescue Tool by Channellock? They were designed by a firefighter for a fire fighter. There is a video on on my myspace site.....www.myspace.com/mychannellocktools or at www.mychannellocktools.com
Glad to hear you like it Mary Ellen! My Company supplies them as well so if anyone else is looking to get their own let me know! We do custom engraving we can do the fire house logo or personalized names and employee numbers.
I've actually held one in my hand. It seems bigger than I expected, but well thought out. I didn't buy one though.
I have a Gerber and a Leatherman. Both have their pros and cons.
I like my Gerber knife too although I am considering the new Channel lock pliers as well
Stacy....I bought one when they first came out, now our local Lowe's will give us a little break on the price....only problem.....How about developing some sort of sheath or case for it....?? Boy the thing can tear up a bunker pocket with that glass breaker....Maybe make something that snaps shut made out of old firehose or something heavy......other than that love the thing,,,,everyone wants to use it and come to me at a scene if needed....LOL..I also carry a Gerber Hinderer, and a muti tool for the odd jobs that come up....Stay safe.....Paul
seems a little tough with a Pack on....??? But will give it a try........Hey why not, might work for me too.....Paul
