does anyone else have a 04 and up F-550 mini pumper or light rescue. If so how do you like it and have you had any problems with it. We have had nothing but trouble out of ours. Just wanting to gripe thanks.
Thats true our biggest problem has been with the engine. In 99 I think they still had the 7.3 diesel ours has the 6.0 and is plagued by turbo problems. We use ours as a minipumper/brush truck/rescue/EMS and we have to be picky on our tools the water alone is alot on the truck.
We have a 2007 F550 and already had te eng replaced at 34000 miles the turbo replaced and it is eating the fron tires of the front. What kind of problem are you having.
Ours is an 07, with the 6.0, 1000gpm pump, we have had suspension issues, electrical problems, transmission issues with the 6 speed manual with split shaft PTO to drive the pump. The truck looks nice, just the ol' boys got too antsy on the purchase and stayed with KME. I'm not sure if the problems are with FORD or KME.
The turbo is the big thing. it has 20k on it has gone thru 3 sets of front tires ready for set number 4. the power steering system has gone bad. also the 4 wheel drive will give you a fit. Dont get me wrong I love the truck its ext cab and is a good truck its just that a small vol. dept. has trouble paying for repairs.
Our minipumper was made by foust brothers all our problems are thru ford and ford will not help out a fire dept. with repairs trust me. The only problem with the be is the tank has a small sending unit on the bottom left corner that sends a signal to our control panel for water level and it got broke shortly after receiving the truck. But we got it replaced and made a cover for it.
My department has an 03 F-550 which is our Rescue. The only problem's we've had are wheel bearing in the front and the Turbo locked up once and is starting to give us problems agian by not kicking in.
The turbo design for the 6.0 has too many parts that are susceptible to heat. So Diesels usually like to run warm anyway, in turn that style of turbo gets cooked. You probably need to get a fixed geometry turbo for better airflow, dependability, etc. Good Luck.
Yeah we just found an aftermarket turbo. Our neighbor dept. just got one. Its alot cheaper than the ford replacement cant think of the company right now though.
