Hi our dept has just been ordered that as of Jan 1 we all (FF) have to wear the exact same pants - Dickies cell phone pocket(men and women have to wear them- ) and t shirts cannot have graphics on the back and cannot they have an other dept's info on it. I am not sure of the station wear of other stations can anyone give me input or share similar issue with me so can see if I have grounds to argue. Our union contract states nothing and the rules and regs indicate they just have to be navy plue pants and t shirts with malteses cross

Can you wear t shirts with fire related graphics on it and can you wear women's stayle pants?
I agree that all members should be uniformed. Wearing anothers departments shirt on duty is a no brainer because if you are on a scene with that department or just your's you should be in your departments shirt for accountabilty and so that it look proffesional. I have always had that opinion that I did not care what other's thought but if the public is our funding than we should appear proffesional to show that funding is spent wisely.
If they require the uniforms, they issue the uniforms. You wear what they issue, its pretty much S.O.P. in most of the paid depts. Accountability is the main purpose, after all you are there to perform a job and to look professional while doing so.
Our department issues us our uniforms. navy blue pants and BDU pants. T-shirt's with department name on back, and a polo shirt.
I wear men's pants at work. I don't have women's pants available to me. They don't look fantastic, but it's not a fashion show. I wouldn't imagine wearing another department's shirt to my station either, not even to bed or to work out in, seems disrespectful to me. Just my opinion.
Our dist provides us with the pants and the shirts..we have class B uniform shirts and also dept t shirts. The t shirts have our name on the back and then our dept patch on the front. We use navy blue bdu pants that are very comfortable and are nomex also. SOP says that we are not to wear dist provided uniforms outside of dist actvities.
Thanks for all the input, we are a small island and there is only one department here so there is no confusion about mixing up of companies on the scene. We are provided $400 annually to buy uniforms but there no SOP on what specifically to buy so it has not been an issue in the past, so now that they are puttin up these requirements they ff are resistent, I guess we are little spoiled-lol.. But we will get over it

The real issue is we have SOP and Rules and regs that havent changed in 25 yrs...
