Thought I'd pass this along. I guess anytime something gets popular, lawyers won't be far behind.

Have a blog- Get a backbone ring a bell?
If your man or woman enough to write it and put it out there for all to see, be prepared. Its a public site and also a matter of time before someone gets slapped with a lawsuit. As FireSiren said, be prepared to back up what you write and not delete any comment which differs from your own.
I think this website is still battling that whole plagiarism thing.
I mean; if people can't credit the original author, then what other lies are they saying here?
Won't post a picture of themselves for a thousand different reasons?
Then have a feature where just your friends can view you.
There are too many lies being told in cyber space.
I'm surprised that there haven't been more lawsuits and arrests.
I think it has something to do with that "I won't get caught" syndrome.
Who knows.

I guess my take on it is that there are way too many idiots out there blogging and posting away with not a bit of credibility or even a basic knowledge of the facts. Those of us who have established ourselves and posted with our names (for the most part) and pictures (except that I'm not pretty enough to warrant me posting a pic, but my helmet is, so you can look at that) aren't afraid to show who we are because we are just saying it like it is. If I say something, it's because I have relatively good evidence that it is true or I will cite where I found the information.

There are a couple of blogs that I used to coast through frequently that have broken down into personal and warrantless attack pages. It's gotten to the point where if you are a chief officer in your community, you'd probably better read the local blogs just to see what they are saying about you and your department on a regular basis, at least to determine the truth or out-and-out fiction of the things being said. When I see some of the things that are posted out there, it reminds me of some of the free for alls we used to have over at the "other" website. Here, Dave's got a good hold on things, but some of these other sites that are out there, well, the "Wild Wild West" doesn't even come close to being an apt description for the rhetoric and emotion going on in those places.

It's gotten to the point where people can just make accusations without any facts whatsoever and people buy it wholesale as truth. Recently a post here in a local blog made an accusation about "personal use" of an official government vehicle just because they saw the vehicle parked in someone's driveway from time to time at night. The vehicle use was well known to all of us and documented and the person whose driveway it was parked in is someone of excellent character and honor and is one of my most reliable people. They had no clue that the person in question was using the vehicle to drive three hours away for official business (drills or meetings), leaving early in the morning on his own time to give an entire day contributing to the public safety of the state, then driving back three hours again late that night. But to the uninformed coward who posted about the "waste of taxpayer money", he (or she) got her bit of slander out there and it turned out they didn't know what the hell they were talking about anyway. It's not like they ever said they were sorry when it was made clear that they didn't have a clue.

So, I guess my point is that since the lawyers have seen a way to cash in on things, maybe it will make the less-informed shut their pie-holes, but instead what I think is that it's going to make the people who have something to lose be a little more reluctant to say their piece, because if some loser can translate it into pocket change, they'll make it happen. I guess I'd better pipe down before they come looking for me...

You know we'd all get along OK if you agreed with me and did things my way....
Yeah; but the FUN starts when there is "disagreement".
Who's disagreeing? Are you disagreeing with me? Don't you dare disagree with me.....

Sorry- got a little bit carreid away..... :)
Debate is good. Debate suggests a premise, an arguement, and rebuttal. It suggests examination of critical issues. It does not permit unreasonable and unsubstantiated attacks on character. It also doesn't permit unsupported "facts".

Come see exactly what we are talking about here on the Obama/Hitler post. Looks like the fire is under control now, but it's amazing where some of this stuff takes off to go.
My mama used to say; "If ya can't say something nice about somebody, SAY IT LOUDLY!"
Oldman your mama taught you right!!! I agree if you can write it or say it, then be prepared to back it up. Don't delete it, it just shows you have no backbone or probably lying about it.
I think your hot in you r pic lol .. Problem is people look for anything now days for free money.. Forums is not the place to make money..How sad..It all started with Mcdonalds lady sueing over hot coffee.. The the world has never been the same...
