FETC replied to William Ladley's discussion Turnouts and NFPA 1971
"With smaller operating budgets, it is truly a risk verse gain mentality by your Fire Chief. They understand what the NFPA says about PPE, they know what their budget has to operate, and they look at who is wearing what gear.... some of it may be in…"

"You are right FETC. Our dets standard is that once you finish the academy you get new gear. Unfortunately our gear is not tested. mainly because I believe the overhead knows that a lot of liners would need to be replaced. More like a dont ask dont…"

FETC replied to William Ladley's discussion Turnouts and NFPA 1971
"You are absolutely right Paul, you can send your own firefighters and become in-house certified for the inspections. You can also purchase the testing equipment for the advanced inspections instead of sending the gear out."

FETC replied to William Ladley's discussion turnouts nfpa 1971
"To be 100% compliant you need to have a trained internal turnout gear inspector to do the annual inspections. Then most send the gear out for those tests. I do the tests myself. Most who fire off a heated reply on FFN do not understand the NFPA…"

FETC replied to William Ladley's discussion turnouts nfpa 1971
"For you guys saying you must have NFPA compliant gear, go back and re-read the new standard. Are you doing the non-destructive and water saturation tests? Probably not, as your department would have to invest in buying the testing equipment, Guess…"

Gregory Borg replied to William Ladley's discussion turnouts nfpa 1971
