I grew up following fire trucks. Of course, way back then, women were NOT allowed. In the 70's I lived in CO where everyone (nearly)volunteered to help the fire department. Always wanted to be a nurse, but took an EMT course and was hooked, apparently for life.
Paramedic followed, then nursing...now again, I'm a volunteer.
Day Job:
Retired ER nurse
Relationship Status:
Divorced
Why I Joined Fire/EMS
I went with my dad to fires as a toddler and became interested in rescue and health care early on. I think everyone who can, should contribute to the well-being of the community.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
Caring for people and making a difference.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
There are many issues today, but in rural departments, recruiting and retaining volunteers is definitely is an issue, as is training and safety. I want to make sure everyone goes home in good shape after the call is over.
