Why I Joined Fire/EMS

I wanted to be a firefighter from the time I was old enough to watch the fire apparatus go by my street in urban east Camden, NJ. I would spend hours across the street from E9, L3, B2 and watch them respond to fires. I knew then that was what I wanted to do with my life. I was very lucky in passing high enough on the civil service test to qualify and get hired. My career was at the best time in history to fight fire and see technology advance. I am thankful for the opportunity I had to serve.

Why I Love Fire/EMS

There is no greater calling. I am glad I listened.

Top Issues Facing Responders:

Every time I attend the yearly Memorial Service at the National Fire Academy, I see that we have allowed another 100 or so of our brothers and sisters to die. This must stop! With the advances in technology and the level of education available to our departments in our recruits, we must leverage this technology and educational ability to activly prevent the needless deaths of so many of our firefighters.
