About Me:
I was 18 years old, when I reported to the Thirtymile fire, my third and last fire. I was very known in the community and on my campus as a writer, public speaker, singer, muscian, athlete and female weight lifter.
I am 5'8", size six...power packed, if I do say so myself. See "Cards Of Death," Thirtymile Fire book.

Why I Joined Fire/EMS
"I had a desire to use my strength and speed to be a good firefighter, and possibly save lives at times."
Why I Love Fire/EMS
Although I was told by my coaches I could train and succeed in the Olympics, I would rather use my strength and speed to save lives.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
The Thirtymile Fire. See the book: "The Thirtymile Fire...Chronicles of Bravery and Betrayal," by John Maclean and "Angel Promises...Remembering the Youngest Firefighter."
2nd Job, before full time firefighting: Barista
Top issues: The now historic Thirtymile fire 7-10-01. See the book: "The Thirtymile Fire...Chronicles of Bravery and Betrayal," by John Norman Maclean and "Angel Promises...Remembering the Youngest Firefighter."--Pleasant Word

Job Shadow: Yakma City Fire Department. Planned to work there after the USFS, and more training. "Could hardly wait to drive that fire truck!"

The 19 Firefighters in Arizona

Wow...19 deaths of the Hot Shots in Arizona! On the ten year commemoration of The Thirtymile Fire, a New Safety Structure with Accountability was passed. Of the four of us, it was aid that it was "Our Legacy."  Now this!  Fires, like the recent one in Arizona, should be fought only from the air with water and fire retardent, not live crew! It's too risky! Fire often creates it's own weather, so all it takes is for the wind to come up to create conditions for a burnover. On accountability,…

Hi Karen. Kudos for your service and dedication to your community and our international fire family. Your loyalty to remembering those lost and your advocacy to learn from and prevention through safety and training is admirable. Please let me know how my region and network may be of assistance. -Roger

Hello All:

My condolences to the families of the two firefighters--one Captain and one Rookie, who was lost in the early morning Easter housefire in Houston. This is always heavy hearted news on a day when we remember life in new and precious ways...and life hereafter. May all be safe out there, and treasure each day of breath we have! And, of by the way...we were sometimes wondering if it was right to have prayer in the Firehouse??--Karen Lee and Friends

As we know the angels above have gained another angel into the ranks, and you have suffered heavy hearts with the loss of your daughter, I hope we as a service have gained greater wisdom to assure this loss never happens again...
