Job Function
Captain
Years in Fire/EMS:

Years With Department/Agency

About Me:
I'm a Husband, Dad and Grandpa. I enjoy being with my Family as much as possible. I like working on cars and making things out of wood.

I'm a Career Fire Captain working at a four man Station on an Engine Company. My house is fairly slow, which I like, and it is brand new.
Relationship Status:
Married
Why I Joined Fire/EMS
I lost my job and thought about what I might like to do. Fire Department and Police Department work came to mind. Luckily for me the first "interest card" I got back was for a Fire Department. I might have been a Cop if I got one back from a Police Department.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
It pays the bills, but even better is the Friends I've made over the years.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
The influx of so many newbies and the possible reduction of forces due to the weakening economy.

What's your favorite WORKOUT?

Posted on March 12, 2008 at 11:00am 1 Comment

Ever since I was a kid, I've enjoyed all sorts of physical activity. It didn't really matter what it was, I was out there instead of sitting at home like a lump. What a shame the kids nowadays have so many other distractions. I know that they have some pretty decent thumb muscles, but that is where it ends.

My favorite team sport has always been and always will be Baseball. I even like to watch it, not just play it. I don't participate in it as much as I used to, but when I get the… Continue

Not too long ago, we had a discussion among our union membership about an issue that our Union President brought up. This discussion was being held on our local's website

message board. I came a bit late to the party and discovered that

someone had made a post or two that didn't set too well with our

President. So, without thinking about it, he had the webmaster

remove those posts and then posted a message stating that he had…

Retirement Thoughts

Posted on February 5, 2008 at 11:48am 4 Comments

As I stated in by first Blog entry, I'm

just about retired. Even though I still enjoy going to work,

interacting with my crew and fellow Firefighters, being challenged on

calls, and dealing with the day to day BS that we all have to deal

with, I'm getting a bit tired. As I sit here at my computer at home,

I'm on the fourth day of my six day break wondering where the first

three days went. When I first started my career, I hated six day

breaks…

OK, So here goes...

I've been thinking about starting a Blog for several years now. I don't know how much I have to say, or if what I say will interest anyone who tries to read it. Anyhow, what the heck, here I go.

I know that many of you (see, I really think that “many” of you out there will read this) may find my words a bit contrary to the Rah-Rah attitude of several if not a lot of the people who frequent Firefighter Nation (more on that in a later entry). For a time, I used to check in at… Continue

From what I've read from your site and blogs, your perception is identical to mine. I clicked the friend request. I would enjoy the opportunity to have the chance to chat and compare worlds. Stay safe!

Well....I don't really wish for bad things to happen...I just figure that bad stuff is going to happen, so why not during my shift!! It was really hard not to act like a giant dork on the way to the fire, but I did say to the guy riding in back with me, "I'm not excited at all." Which, of course, meant the exact opposite.
