Rookies

Why is it Brand New Rookies come straight out to the field from the acadamy and act like they've been on the job 10 years?  They show up with the wrong shoes, no belts, piss pour attitudes, and think that they can argue with the officer when he/she gives an order of where to ride.  They also stand around with a dumb look on their face and wait to be told every little thing to do, step by step.  What happened to common sense?  It's beginning to happen more and more and I am at a loss of where…See More

I am 35 yrs old and I have been a member of the FWFD since January of 2004. When I'm not working at the station I still drive semi's on my days off for a long-haul refrigerated company. I run local, delivering and picking up loads. I am married with two children, a son who's 8 and a daughter who's 9 weeks.

Why I Joined Fire/EMS
I started out as a volunteer firefighter just south of Lubbock, Tx and then found out that Fort Worth was hiring, so I tried and luckily enough made it. I love every minute of it, I enjoy helping people on their worst days and the simple thrill of not really knowing what the day/shift will bring since everyday is something completely new and different.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
The Unknown of it all
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Right now, the biggest issue nation wide is simply the hope of being able to keep our jobs with the way the economy is and the way cities are cutting financing.

Howdy, Don. Don't recall if we've met. I used to hang out at 31's quite a bit and also used to produce videos for Friends for Fort Worth Firefighters with Robert Burn. Haven't spent much time at any FW stations lately, though. Stay safe up there.
