I naturally fell into all this since my brothers literally started in the EMS svc in our area back in the 1970's. I became a nurse in 1996 and joined the TN1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team with it's formation in 2003. I have been deployed all over Florida, Alabama, St. Louis, and of course, Katrina. I serve proudly as a member of TN1 DMAT and my community as a member of the area search and rescue team STARS (Special Tactics and Rescue Services).
My whole family is in EMS/Firefighting, so it was natural
Why I Love Fire/EMS
Knowing that I can & will impact someone's life in the first ten minutes!
Top Issues Facing Responders:
9/11 raised the nation's consciousness of the hazards and dangers involved with fire/EMS, but since then I feel that it is waning. Yeah, it was great for a while, but now that all the grants have been handed out and some areas still are using antiquated equipment, Americans need to work to provide our fire/Ems personnel with better pay, more respect, and better benefits. These guys (and women) are professionals and need to be like professionals!
