About Me:
My husband is a LT/FF/EMT-IV/Hazmat Tech...He has taught me a lot of things about the fire and EMS services but I haven't been on a department in a long time so I still have a lot to learn. I'm not currently on a department...I still work at the hospital but I'm trying to get my EMT-IV. I am always willing to learn...so if you have anything you think I should know tell me!!!!!
I actually started out in nursing school and decided to do a ride-a-long at a local EMS station and I was hooked. I was young and goofed off a lot and didn't prepare myself for national registry and failed. I continued to do firefighting training thru the volunteer fire department. I completed fire school but never retook the national registry for my EMT. I ended up working at a police department for about 4 years and now I have been working as a Sleep study tech at the hospital. I haven't been exactly happy with my job and I still have the love for the EMS field so now I am going back to EMT school in January and I want to eventually work in the ER as an EMT-IV (not sure about other states but several hospitals here in Tennesse let EMT's work in the ER). Wish me luck!!!!!
Why I Love Fire/EMS
helping people and the adrenaline rush of a structure fire.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
underpaid firefighters/EMT's and EMT-P and not the having the funds for the proper equipment.
One day the guys and I were doing fire prevention for the kid at the k-5 school. A little girl said she was going to be a firemen one day and the little boy next to her said girls can't be firemen. I looked down at him and said yes they can. He looked up at me and said ok very scared voice and moved away. The girl just smiled
