I started out as a Cadet with the Walkerton, Indiana Volunteer Fire Department, which I was with for 9 years (7 as a firefighter). While with Walkerton, I also was a paid-part time firefighter with the Portage Twp. Fire Department (South Bend, Indiana) and the Notre Dame Fire Department. After marrying, I joined the Centre Twp. Fire Department (South Bend, Indiana) and was with them for a year. In 2002, I was hired by the Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office as a Deputy Fire Marshal. I moved to Southern Indiana and joined the Ferdinand Department.
My Training:
1st, 2nd, and Master Firefighter Advanced Fire/Arson/Explosion Investigator. Former 1st Responder 3 years. Former E.M.T. 9 years.
About Me:
Well again, 22 years as a firefighter, 9 years as a EMT, 3 years as a 1st Responder. My favorite position as a firefighter was with the Notre Dame University Fire Department.
Day Job:
UST Inspector for I.D.E.M.
Relationship Status:
Divorced
Why I Joined Fire/EMS
Well Update time; I retired from the fire department in August of 2008 and I miss it. The problem is, I was trained in another area of the state and I don't agree with the way they fight fire in my new area. I think I'll just stand back and take pictures for a while
I was brought up in a family of Public Servants. My Dad is the Sheriff of a County in Indiana, his dad was a Police Officer in the Chicago area. My Mom was a Police/Fire Dispatcher. So, I just kind of naturally fell into it. I have alway been a compassionate person and have had to help anyone that needs it.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
Helping people and that after 21 years I still get the adreinaline rush.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Lack of state funding for nesessities such as gear. Green firefighters that do not understand the consequences of their actions. Lack of Basic training for beginning firefighters. Lack of common sense firefighting (Risk vs. Benefit)

Hey Brett how's St. Anthony, I really miss that area. I live in Oakland City now I grew up in Ferdinand. My oldest daughter lives in Schnellville with her mother. Do you see Kieth Sanders much? I still see him every so often on some of our runs, and if he's selling things he might show up at our station.
I enjoy your yearly car show, my brother usually enters his car in it, and your water ball looks fun. I wish we had a team here. Hope to hear from you. Stay safe!
